The Panoramic of Detrelo da Malhada is a viewpoint to lose sight in the town of Moldes, in the middle of Serra da Freita and at 1099 meters altitude.
In Portugal we have fantastic and contrasting landscapes such as the plains of the Alentejo and the north mountains torn by valleys and waterfalls.
The district of Aveiro is no different and can offer different landscapes, from the sea to the mountain. And visiting Arouca is not just a suggestion, but almost a must for those who like close contact with nature.
I visited the Malhada Detrelo Panoramic after my visit to Paiva Walkways. It is just over 40 minutes on delightful curvy and counter-curved roads that are less than 30 km away.
Although it is a windy place, it is no wonder that a wind farm was created on the top of Serra da Freita, on days without fog the landscape is breathtaking with the view to reach the highs of Gamarão, the valley of the Paiva, the Serra de Montemuro, the Douro Valley and the mountains of the Valongo region to Gerês.
To the west, easier to identify, it is possible to reach the Atlantic Ocean, the west, the coastal region between Espinho and Porto, and the east, the Côto do Boi, the Serra da Arada, São Macário and the Serra do Marão. .
Contrary to what many people think, the viewpoint does not have a 360 degree view, but something around 180 degrees on a suspended platform that is more than enough to get lost in mountains, valleys, rivers and an ocean.
Beyond the viewpoint, you’ll also find a small watchtower on site.
